Southeast Ohio is the stuff of an outdoorsman’s dreams. Take full advantage of the lush landscape, dense with rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. This area of Ohio is home to 15 state parks, three nature preserves, seven state forests, 14 hunting and fishing areas, and the Muskingum and Ohio rivers. The unique topography made it a gold mine — er, more accurately, a coal mine — for early settlers, who industrialized the area rich with salt, coal and timber.

Today, it is dotted with small-town charm and opportunities for relaxation and rural solitude. A stay here will reward you with outdoor adventures or an arts and history lesson that you can only find in the state’s well-forested side.
