Steubenville – one of Ohio’s oldest cities - is rich in history and celebrates its multicultural traditions. Located on the site of Fort Steuben (1786 military fort) along the Ohio River, Steubenville was founded as part of the westward expansion of the country that began after the Revolutionary War. Twenty-three larger than life murals around the city depict the development of the town from its frontier beginnings to its decades of industrial strength and as the home of such celebrities as Dean Martin. Tour guides and self-guided tours bring the paintings to life. More history can be experienced at the reconstructed Historic Fort Steuben that offers a glimpse of early American frontier life, the original 1801 First Federal Land Office, the Grand Theater Restoration, and the many historic churches with classic architecture and stained glass windows.

Steubenville invites you to celebrate its diverse heritage with numerous concerts, art shows, and festivals throughout the year and a new holiday attraction from November through December: Nutcracker Village and Advent Market.  Over 75 unique life-size Nutcrackers welcome visitors to the Christmas Wonderland and market at Fort Steuben Park providing opportunities for shopping and selfies.

Green spaces, farmers’ markets, parks, hiking/biking trails and nearby lakes offer outdoor recreation and activities.
